Ability to limit quantity of products currently available. Adding ''out of stock'' option for selected products.
This would be an great feature! I think it would help eliminate any type of overstock from your sub boxes AND it would bring in the scarcity affect to customers and convince them to buy immediately.
Yes! I'd love this option. Any way for us to be alerted to sold out stock. I'm starting off with a low quantity and a fear is i'll run out of stock before i can set it to expire
Driving user demand through psychological limitations and showing that something is in limited supply is a great driver. This would be fantastic IMO, both for REAL stock control for those not wanting to oversubscribe their service, but also for those who wouldn't mind their sub teetering between 4 and 7 available boxes to help drive some demand.
@Peter Donoghue: Thanks Peter for your comment. Can you give us an example of how you want this utilized in the terms of functionality? We are thinking about introducing this.
@Andrija Krstic: Sure! We have a deadline/cutoff when we ship our boxes. Because we're on WooCommerce, we enable the stock control on-site a few days before the deadline just as an extra nudge to get in the club whilst they can.

@Peter Donoghue: So you basically want the quantity indicator to appear on your product page informing your customers how many more items are there in stock? How are you handling the number of items left? Are you able to add product quantity on the backend and it deducts automatically every time someone checks out?

1) Would it be effective enough to add a setting on product settings that allows you to specify a number and then it reduces each time someone purchases it?
2) This would mean you need to update the number each time it reaches 0. Would that be ok for you?
3) Also would you want this limit to appear on your store front / checkout?

@Stefan Pretty: yes for all three. I plan on numbering my boxes during launch phase to make it feel exclusive and drive demand with controlled expansion. I wouldn’t mind these steps in order to have more control.
@George Kleanthous: how would you propose we handle the quantity once it depletes? We have too many different billing scenarios to reset it based on time

@Stefan Pretty: I love 1 and 3. 1 is definitely a yes, I think three could be optional or, ideally, have a setting that was "When supply<6 show stock" so that it only shows when you're low to encourage those on the fence, but not show your stock if you arent selling much. And yeah it would be a bit of extra work to update every time it reaches zero or when we want to reset stock, but I think it'd be worth the work by a longshot
@Matthew Heffelfinger: thanks! How would you suggest we tackle number 2? We’d need to know if you had an item back in stock, but that’s impossible without us being informed some way. Open to suggestions
@Stefan Pretty: Perhaps, when the item runs out the system generates an alert on our dashboard so we can see that its out and then we know its out and we can either update it or wait till we have it back in stock to update it. Perhaps it shows up in the little newsfeed? Or perhaps it shows up in a different color or shaded out in our store to remind us its out of stock and we should update it if we have more. It could just have a box that says "Store Qty:" next to the price.
@Stefan Pretty: allow the store owner to set a stock number then have the product disappear from the store once stock depletes and possibly send a notification to the store owner. Store owner then can choose to reopen with new stock or not. Only reason I am not selling the left over stock I have is because I run the risk of selling items I don't have left in stock.
@Stefan Pretty: I am really hoping that this feature (#1 for sure and #3 would be good) will be available! Our new subscription box service is only going to offer a very small number of boxes, and I am afraid that it could get away on me if I don't hide the product in time. We will only have a limited quantity and I would be disappointed if someone subscribed, and then I had to explain that it was sold out! :(
@Stefan Pretty: One more suggestion - if we sell out of our subscription boxes, a "Sign up for our waitlist" button (link to mailchimp list) would be awesome to have on our homepage.
@Stefan Pretty: 1) Yes. 2) Yes - either restock with a given number or remove from store. The item should show "out of stock" message until/unless the owner updates the inventory or hides the item completely. 3) Yes, preferably optionally, not as the default.

Being able to add a quantity to the product details, then automatically showing "out of stock" once that number equals 0 would be great! Currently, the one-time product is almost useless since some customers may not actually be able to receive the product they purchase if stock ran out before the store staff could mark it "out of stock".
@Markus Heinrich: Yes, currently you'll need to put it offline from your admin as soon as it is out of stock so it won't appear on your store. We are working on implementing this feature, thanks for voting!
Adding to this, I feel like this could be used for balanced growth, and a way to drive sales by demand.
If we were able to do something like only allow X amount of new subs per month, it may actually drive subs based on the exclusivity of access.
